"For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind:.." ~ Hosea 8:7
Replacing bad habits is a natural process. To understand what is involved in the process of replacing bad habits you are directed to think for awhile on the process by which a child learns how to walk.
The simple process should be seen as training the child's mind and body to conquer by replacing bad habits of thinking and acting in crawling with the new habits involved in walking.
You are hence to take for granted that the child has first mastered perfectly the act or habits of traditional crawling.
Maybe her parents want to encourage her to learn how to walk fast by holding her two hands. This serves as a big support and encourages the child to take the most difficult first step.
For sure, the child would drop back to crawling in no time. Yet, with the encouragement of the entire family, and her desire to walk upright like everyone at home, she will painfully repeat this exercise daily.
She may fall or return to crawling many times. She may even cry for sometime. Not withstanding, her walking exercise goes on.
The first step without the help of her parents is a big breakthrough and the greatest achievement ever. So you hear the noise of a big celebration at home.
From then on, the child has discovered a new hobby, she continues on her own to amuse her parents and gain little more independence every time. Practice is becoming fun.
Suddenly, as her desire to walk drives her so fast, after many repeated practice, the child stands up and walks joyfully without consciously thinking of it.
She has even forgotten how painful it was to make the first few steps. Forgotten also is the joy she formerly derived from crawling.
A great miracle has truly happened. The process of her walking has been taken over by the automatic habit mind - her subconscious.
She now walks about at ease by habit. At her last stage, crawling becomes painful while walking becomes joy and amusement.
She has learnt how to walk by replacing bad habits involved in crawling.
This seems very logical and natural. Yet it is this same process you are going to follow if you are replacing bad habits.
Now you know it is possible to conquer any bad habit. That is the purpose of this page. To make you believe in the process.
For, according to your faith shall it be done unto you. ~ Matthew 9:29.
The process of replacing bad habits is a simple one. You trade by barter one set of habits with better or more desirable ones.
If you are wondering how you will conquer the little demons in your life, then you understand victory comes by replacing bad habits with good ones. |
