Your Regular PrayersFor your regular prayers to be profitable, you need to follow a pattern. The Lord Jesus gave the instructions to follow.
You don’t need to use vain repetition. Then you must follow the Lord's choice of place for your Spiritual duty.
There are places that are more conducive to your success.
You need to take good note of these when at your place of choice:
1. Vain Repetition:
Jesus instructed his followers:
“And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.” Matthew 6:7
What is vain repetition? This was the pattern of the prophets of Baal at mount Camel. What happened then?
They:
“Called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, HEAR US. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped about the altar which was made.” I King 18:26
You will find the Gentiles following after this same pattern.
Therefore there is nothing wrong in repetition. But there is no use for “vain repetition.”
2. Tiredness:
Satan wants you to get tired soon or even sleep off during your devotion times. Don’t allow that.
Not to easily get tired or doze away, change your posture.
You can put some variation into your devotional activities. Sing and read Scripture. Or even move about your prayer place.
3. Disturbance:
You need a place where there is little or no distraction. Noise is not compatible with a place of devotion.
And remember you are not in a place for prayers to impress people. You are there to meet with God.
Jesus was in the coolness of a garden, on the mountain and river side. Follow the Master’s example.
Go to your inner room and close the door and pray in secret.
At your hour of devotion, make sure your telephone and television are disconnected.
You also need to shut the door of your mind to all intruding thoughts. Resist the devil. James 4:7.
4. Discouragement:
You get easily discouraged or you don’t feel like praying? Don’t worry.
Make even that your subject of prayer. So pray all the same.
This is the time to cast your burden upon Jesus.
Turn everything to God in prayer with thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6; 1 Peter 5:7-9
