The Value of a Good Dress Code
A good dress code is dressing all the time in plain, neat and simple fashion appropriate for the occasion. The simple rule is to be moderate.
“Let your moderation be known unto all men.” ~ Philippians 4:5
When considering the best way to dress to any occasion, just follow the rule of moderation. Let your moderation be seen by everyone.
It gives the first impression
If you want to be successful, you need to adhere to a good dress code. The difference between success and failure may depend simply in the way you dress.
When you meet someone for the first time, he listens to what your dress code says. A good dress code is very important. It helps form a good first impression which sets the stage for all your relationships. It is therefore a great key to success.
Why are the ways you dress and the clothes you wear so important?
Your dress code is your first passport which shows:
- Who you are
- What you do
- Where you live
Are you serious or careless, neat or dirty? Of course it is your dress code that shows people even before you open your mouth to talk to them. A good dress code speaks for you and never against you.
It shows who you are and where you live
A king in his royal outfit is likely to live or be found in a royal palace. So also a soldier in his military attires is fit for an army barrack. A harlot with her attire would be attracted to dwell on the street pavements.
The truth is in most cases people would react to you the way you dress. If you dress like a king, a queen or a priest, people are likely to treat you as you dress.
Show me how you dress and I will tell you what message you are spreading. Your clothes and the way you dress talk. A good dress code sends a message to people who see you. It points to your way of life….and helps lead you to an ultimate life destination.
If you are a lady, ask yourself what message are you spreading to those who meet you? Are you inviting them to your nakedness or to your well protected private palace?
You know a soldier, a police man and a nurse first by their uniform. We have in the Bible what is called the royal apparel. We have also “the attire of a harlot.” ~ Proverbs 7:10
The attire refers to the fashion or the dress code, and the way of dressing which announces the profession of the wearer. Hence, there is a style of dress which announces the profession of the wearer without waiting for the wearer to talk or speak a word.
It is impossible for a queen to dress in the attire of a harlot. Neither is it common for a harlot patiently waiting for her clients on a street pavement to dress up like a queen.
You need to watch what you say with your dress code. For if you dress as a queen or a prince people would treat you and address you the way you dress.
On the other hand, if you follow a dress code of a harlot, people will react to you in like manners.
Danger of a Bad Dress Code
When you dress solely to attract attention to yourself, you are dressing at a risk.
A good dressing habit makes the first impression on others, protects your good name and good will and your natural influence in the community. It protects your good reputation.
A good dress code makes good impression upon sensible young people and protects you against evil suspicion.
What happens any time you fail to follow the good dress code? You expose yourself to ridicule, weaken your reputation, destroy your influence and lose the good opinion of others.
