Desire Honor
You should desire honor and respect in your community. Therefore use your strength and desire for action to earn you respect and not shame.
Let your action and energy be well directed.
Right from this young age you should desire to make the world a better place. You should desire honor and respect in your community.
As you grow old, you would need more recognition within the society.
It is obvious that you don’t want to be disrespected. Therefore you should avoid disgrace or scandal.
No, far from it, you don’t want to be an outcast, a beggar or a fugitive. You don’t want to be an enemy of those who are good in your community.
That is why as you seek the good you need also to avoid the bad. You need to learn from Cain.
By all means avoid the way of Cain. He came from the evil one.
“Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.” 1John 3:12
“Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.” Jude 1:11
The wise should seek to be your friend. People must enjoy your companionship rather than avoid it. You are expected to be a shinning light in your community.
You are like a salt giving color and taste to people around you. You need to be the standard bearer, a motivator and an example for the young ones to follow.
How will you become someone highly regarded in the society? Sure, it takes hard labor.
You must labor for it. You get it as a reward. Good reputation would only come when people have a good opinion about you. That comes only when you earn it by your good deeds within the community.
Therefore you must work to merit and secure a good image. That is why you need to live and lead a useful life within your community. You need to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing and happiness of other people.
