Good Character

The first thing you should aim at in life is to build a good and solid character.

It is the foundation of your future. It is truly your starting point.

There is need to plan or anticipate the future. It is the only sure thing that you can depend on to bring you real future happiness.

If you want your hope and aspiration to materialize, you need a good starting point for it. It is your good soil. It is like that priceless field. You plant your seed in it and in due season it brings you abundant fruits.

You will find rest and peace for your mind with a good character cultivated from youth. And when the burden of life comes upon you, you will find great support.

It will give you new strength when your soul is tired because of all your labor and care. Or when you are heavy because of the weight of years.

Certainly, you would need to labor to prepare such a good soil.

With it comes a good name.

“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”

Proverbs 22:1

True, a good name is better than great riches. It means a good reputation. It is a good name that brings favor that surpasses silver and gold. It is better than precious ointment. But a good name comes only with a good character.

It is what your community calls you, that is your reputation. This is what would make your way in life smooth and peaceful. It will make life an easy path. It gives wisdom.

The ways of wisdom are pleasantness. And all her paths are peace. Proverbs 3:17

“A good name is better than precious ointment…..” Ecclesiastes 7:1

You young ones don’t overlook these concerns. Don’t just lay for your self future plans. Don’t evaluate your future expectations or your future career, without first giving due consideration to the importance of a good disposition.

You must labor to establish a good personality to start your life with. This will produce in return a good reputation upon which you can build your hopes of success and happiness.

You must make a good name your watch word. It is the only foundation on which future hopes can rest.
