Worry could have many causes. Yet the Bible is concern with you removing the root of bitterness. So let now go deep down to the root and define its causes:
Causes of Worry - You worry when you conform to this world
When you want to live as everyone else, then you are tempted most of the time to worry. Living according to worldly standard and precept is conformity to the world. This is like living on a strange Island.
There may be many occasions and situations whereby it is normal to worry. However, you can’t ask yourself why worry when you are a prominent figure in a worldly Parade. In a show of vanity, there is no time to think of others. Why? You are in a big competition with your neighbors. You want a better, bigger and faster car. You want a house with more rooms and space. You want of course to dress up in the latest fashion.
So you’re in a permanent competition with great pressure on your heart and mind. Remember while you are actively engaged in such a race, you could ask why worry a million times there would be no answer. Why? In such a worldly engagement, you cannot do without being anxious. Your fret is without end because you could never keep up with the pace at this vanity parade. You are competing with everyone and you can never win the battle.
Hence, to do away with worry, you would need to get out of the crowd. And be yourself. You cannot perform any spiritual exercise in the crowd. You can’t pray truly in the crowd.
God’s way is to make you more unique, more special by separating yourself from the crown. Don’t try to be like everyone else. Get out from among them, be separate and be cleansed. Allow God to show His power in you and through you.
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."~ Romans 12:2
Causes of Worry - You worry when you are too self centered
You might keep shouting why worry and yet focus attention on yourself. This may become a source of great concern. You think of whatever people have said, done, or left undone, only as it concerns you.
If a person is indifferent to you, you get unhappy. If she appears interested, in you, you think she has a hidden motive. When people look serious around you, you feel it’s because you have displeased them. And if they smile, it could only be because you are ridiculous.
Ask again why worry? No, but wait a little. Just think of others for awhile. Can you imagine people living their personal lives? Think of it. Everyone has personal issues to resolve –just as you do! You are at the center of your own universe. Yes, but every other person also. They have their personal concern which may have little to do with yours.
When you know that others are as self centered as you are, then you’ll put yourself under control and manage your worry better.
Do everything as unto the Lord. Render nothing but acceptable service. So as a matter of truth you worry because of your focus, choice or priority.
What then are the causes of Worry?
In general the causes of worry are:
• Wrong focus Are you concern with higher things of heaven or the low things on earth?
• Wrong choice You either fix your mind on trusting God or you will continue to worry. Life is a choice. Worry also is a choice. You can call your mind to order.
• Wrong priority Worry takes your attention from the most important thing and makes you waste your time and energy on the less important.
Action Point:
Decide to think, about God, what he wants you do today.
Decide to think about your spouse, your friends, parents see what is good for each of them.
God bless you as you decide for Him in Jesus name.
