In the Bible, bad habits are likened to little foxes; they destroy promising vineyards. They are also like little demons; they are uncontrollable. Take the story of the demon-possessed man in Mark 5:1-5. The man:

How will you gain self control and direct your life God’s way? It is when you finally break bad habits. Why are you so helpless? It is because of the little foxes. You cannot gain full control over your own self until you break bad habits. Of course, you realize the sorrow and pains involved. Maybe you also cried day and night. You know how you are hurting yourself and those very dear to you because of these evil unpleasant secret actions. How can you discover a purpose for your life when you are still living in the tomb with lifeless habits? Well you know how difficult it is for you to find a purpose and motivation to live your life. Yet, you can conquer bad habits with God if you give it the required time and efforts. Breaking bad habits is possible.

You need to persist and continue in your effort. The Bible says when you have done everything to stand; you have to keep standing. You need to stay on. You will always discover new bad habits to break as you move on in life. You have therefore to be willingness and obedience to keep going forward with God and break bad habits on your way. It depends on how simple or complex the habit is. To correct a simple habit like fixing the time for waking up and for taking your dinner may require just few days. Complex addictions, of course require more time and efforts. No matter what it takes, wait patiently until you break free to reach the end you desire.
